Helpful Hints: | Reading – Pick grade level books for your child to read ( see list). If you suspect your child is below grade level – Have them read a page if they are unable to read 5 or more words on the page that book may be too difficult. Pick a new one. Day 1 – You read whole book to your child, ask questions , discuss Day 2 – Your child reads a page or 2 and discuss, summarize Day 3 – Your child reads a page or 2 and discuss, summarize Day 4 – Your child reads a page or 2 and discuss, summarize Day 5 – Your child reads the whole book. Retells the story, verbally or writes a book Writing – Your children should not be worried about spelling words correctly , but hopefully by how the words sound. This is called kid writing. It is OK. The content is what is important. They should be able to write down their ideas without stress. |
