Candida Albicans – Symptoms and Treatment

As many as 80 million people may suffer from disorders by Candida albicans, a yeast that lives in all our bodies.  Normal levels of the yeast cause no problems, but when abnormal growth pushes the level of Candida albicans higher, disorders can result; for example , oral thrush in children and vaginitis in women.

When the growth is unchallenged, the result can be a much more serious disease in which the yeast becomes a fungus that releases harmful toxins.  Because these toxins weaken the immune system, they can in turn cause abdominal pain, allergies, bronchial problems, constipation, depression, diarrhea, headaches, irritability, memory loss, menstrual disorders, and skin disorders.

What Causes Candida Albicans?

Candida albicans can be caused by a number of different sources:

Broad spectrum antibiotics can destroy beneficial bacteria in the intestines.  The beneficial bacteria are then replaced by Candida albicans.

Stress, pollution, cortisone, (and other steroid derivatives), and birth control pills can weaken the body’s immune system and allow the candida albicans to grow

Changes in normal gastrointestinal acidity

Chemotherapy to treat cancer

Repeated pregnancies

Poor nutrition, especially high-carbohydrate and high meat diets.  Meat eaters are more susceptible to Candida albicans because they may ingest low levels of antibiotics fed to livestock.

How Can It Be Cured?

Natural healers and holistic doctors believe that Candida albicans can be cured by killing the yeast; cleansing the dead cells from the body; reestablishing normal digestive functions and an efficient metabolism; tonifying afflicted organs and glands; and reestablishing healthful colonies of the essential microorganisms in the body, including acidophilus, bulgaricus and bifidus.

Foods to Avoid and Foods to Favor

The most effective nutritional program to combat Candida albicans is a yeast free, low-carbohydrate diet.  Avoid baker’s yeast and any baked goods that might contain it and brewer’s yeast and any products that might contain it ( for example, alcoholic beverages).

Also be sure to avoid refined sugars, vinegar, relishes, mushrooms, aged cheeses, dried fruits, and fruit juices

Eat plenty of vegetables, sea vegetables, grains, beans and a smallamount of fresh fruit.
